However, the project would need to move out of the dark ages of the early 2000s, and take on PHP5.4, composer, PSR autoloading, separation of controllers and views etc. I estimate the majority of this product could be discarded, and rebuilt using ready-made packages, and be incredibly flexible as a result. Nearly all the suggestions here, and the bugs raised on github, are problems that have been solved a thousand times in other open source packages. I remember OpenDocMan from a decade ago, and it just has not moved forward, which is such a shame, because it should be stomping on the alternatives by now.
